Types of Roulette Bets
Roulette bets are made by placing your casino chips on the layout table next to the roulette wheel. There are two categories of roulette bets: inside bets and outside bets. Inside bets are bets that are placed on single numbers or smaller groups of numbers. Outside bets are placed on large groups of numbers, such as even/odd, high/low and so on.
The house advantage for each bet is the same across the board. In American roulette, the house advantage for each bet is 5.26%. In European roulette, the hose advantage is 2.7%. The one exception is the “basket bet” which has a house advantage of 7.89%.
Inside Bets
Straight Up Bet – A bet on any single bet. Pays 35 to 1 if the ball lands on that exact number.
Split Bet – A bet on any two numbers. Pays 17 to 1 if the ball lands on either number.
Street Bet – A bet on a group of three numbers. Pays 11 to 1 if the ball lands on any of those numbers.
Square Bet or Corner Bet – A bet on a group of four numbers. Pays 8 to 1 if the ball lands on any of those numbers.
Basket Bet- A bet on the numbers 0, 00, 1, 2 and 3. This bet is only available in American roulette. This is also the worst possible bet you can make in roulette. Avoid the basket bet at all times. Pays 6 to 1 if the ball lands on any of those numbers.
Line Bet – A bet on a group of six numbers. Pays 6 to 1 if the ball land son any of those numbers.
Outside Bets
Even or Odd – A bet on whether the ball will land on an even number or odd number. Pays 1 to 1 if correct.
High or Low – A bet on the numbers 1-18 or 19-36. Pays 1 to 1 if the ball lands in the group you select.
Dozen Bet – A bet on a group of twelve numbers: 1-12, 13-24 or 25-36. Pays 2 to 1 if the ball lands in the group you select.
Column Bet – Basically the same as above – this is a bet on a group of twelve numbers and it also pays out 2 to 1. The only difference is that a column bet uses different numbers in its groups of twelve. This bet is made by placing your chips at the bottom of any column on the roulette layout.
